The Exhibition

Places and faces of Japan that has fascinated the Occident

A selection of over 200 masterpieces tells of a Floating World where the ethics of samurai is opposed by the joy of every single moment, the pleasure and enjoyment in all its forms.

Many were the schools and artists who specialized in these themes, but three are the Masters that still remain the undisputed reference points: Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858) and Kitagawa Utamaro (1753-1806).

Hokusai [...] his drawings; the waves are like claws that cling to the ship and I can almost hear them

Vincent van Gogh
